The St. Michael’s Piece
45,000 square feet of green space and a new 722 square foot park have the potential to be incorporated with the NorthWest Cultural Trail.
The Final Peice
The final gap of the North West Cultural Trail is the St. Michaels connection. A state-of-the-art sports facility exists just east of the St. Michael's college school arena which would make a perfect addition to the City's publicly accessible green spaces. The area features an artificial turf field, a rubberized running track, and lighting for evening events. During the winter, an air-supported dome covers part of the field to allow for use year-round. A key challenge for securing this piece would be a Community Access Agreement between the City and the Toronto District School board.
Furthermore, just south of the arena, a proposal has been approved at 1467 Bathurst Street which includes a new 772 square metre public park at the intersection of St. Clair Avenue West and Bathurst Street. An alternate route has been developed to allow the NWCT to connect to the proposed park.
Next Steps
Work with the local Councillor’s office.
Secure a Community Access Agreement with St. Michael’s college.
Develop an alternate route to and possibly through the proposed park.
