Wilson Avenue Section
With the proposed Downsview Lands, Modonna Connection, and Caledonia Road Extenstion, the Northwest Cultural Trail will fit seamlessly within the future urban landscape of Wilson Avenue.
A Transformational Piece
Another important connection within the North West Cultural Trail is the Wilson Avenue piece. According to Map 3 of the City's Official Plan, Wilson Avenue is classified as a major street with a planned and existing right-of-way width of 33.0 metres (confirmed by City staff). The 1.35 km stretch of Wilson Avenue, part of the North West Cultural Trail, starts from the Madonna Catholic School, near Dubray Avenue, and ends at Dufferin Street. The surrounding area is characterized by low and mid-rise residential apartment buildings, low-rise retail and mixed-use buildings and low and mid-rise commercial/ office buildings that form the Wilson Business Improvement Area.
As a major arterial thoroughfare, Wilson Avenue provides a vital link between established residential neighbourhoods, a BIA, places of worship and schools. An active transportation route along this stretch has the potential to transform Wilson Avenue into a pedestrian-friendly and highly accessible street. Other similar improvements include connections to the Proposed Downsview Lands, enhancements to the streetscape and direction for both small-scale and large-scale development.
Key Considerations for the future of Wilson Avenue
